Bintan Lagoon Resort

Day 1 (30/07/04)

tis was my 1st trip to Bintan. well, it was really fun! went with Serena, Elgin, Leong, Colin, Qiu Ying, Hui Ling and Joshua. seemingly a TJC Alumni gathering....

we had tis fully air-con bungalow at Bintan Lagoon Resort all to ourselves!!! reached there about 4pm, excitedly we took the buggy out for rides to the pools and beaches (recce around to check out their facilities and beautiful crowd). ok, there were no hunks nor babes; alot of families with kids though, Ang-mos, Korean and Japanese especially. we wanted to BBQ that nite... then it started to drizzle, that made our BBQ fire difficult to start! Joshua acted smart and poured in a cup of Vodka to start the fire. well, it did. it flamed up for a short spur then the charcoals became wet. brilliant right? eventually, things did worked out, thanks to Serena's continuos fanning of the flame. thus, we had a warm consistent fire to BBQ dinner. Leong (aka Shellfish King / "Ham"-King) bought only a packet of blood cockles! so sad! the cockles were damn fantastic when BBQ with sambal chilli sauce. ok, Leong's sambal chilli sauce was damn nice too! all in all, the food he bought was pretty good, minus the neverending amount of hotdogs, chicken wings, cup noodles and canned meat food....... cheers to Leong!

after BBQ.... it was past 11pm. we started to booze out and smoke by the swimming pool which was all dark and empty. (what's new? hey Michele! told u that u muz come to this Bintan trip right, but u don't want.....) mixed Absolut Mandarin with orange juice and started to play drinking games. multiples of 7 and multiples of 4, as well as whichever number that ends with 4 or 7. the rounds went really fast and we finished the whole jug within an hour, all 6 of us then dived into the pool in the dark and started swimming or more so... soak up in the pool! the guys complained that the water was very cold, shivering away but Hui Ling and i don't think so. maybe we are too used to training swimming at nite when there's no warmth at NUS pool. i never had such a booze-out and swim / frolick in the water before, hence this was really a memorably fun virgin experience! too bad that Serena was sick with flu so she couldn't join us. Serena is really a nice girl and also very funny! her Boyfriend, Elgin has this uncanny ability to keep a straight, sian-0.5 face, then come up to you, crack a joke and break into bright laughter! well, both of them are really nice people, easy going and helpful. glad to know them. glad that they are Joshua's pals. he is really fortunate to have such nice friends.

Day 2 (31/07/04)

Joshua and i slept in till 11am, so we were the last 2 to wake up. if not because of Leong's loud chummy laughter, we won't have been awoken up from our good sleep. as usual, he was teasing Qiu Ying big time, both of them are best friends. so, Josh and i dragged ourselves out of bed to breakfast. not nice to wake up too late anyway. then, it started to pour!!! freak!!! went all the way to Bintan to play sea sports and sun-tan then it must just rain the early afternoon away... so sad! so all of us had to remain in the bungalow watching tv and play mahjong. "Ham-King" complained that he was hungry so he commanded the girls to cook spaghetti. he is the King of "Ham" mah so we of course had to kow-tow to him right? hahahah! so while i was cooking clam-chowder spaghetti, opened the fridge and one of the rack gave way, the glass jug came crashing straight near my feet. it shattered and wet the floor, i couldn't move coz i can't see where's the glass bits. suddenly, Joshua noticed that my toe was bleeding so he helped me to the bathroom. it was a small cut but it kept on dripping blood. so while he washed my wound and removed the glass bit, i was watching my blood flow away with the running water. guess what? i started to go weak in the knees and my whole body started to wanna slump onto the floor while my face went white.... Joshua was so scared! he thought that i was going to faint any momwnt which i was! well, i am not so much afraid of pain but more so, the sight of running blood and wounds can jus make me faint. flowing blood has this ability to scare the hell of me.... that is also why i never donate blood..... see my blood flow into the packet can freak me out.... after he dressed my wound, i took for a short nap while they had lunch.

the rest of day when the bothering rain finally stopped, we spent it playing at the beach: kayaking, beach volley, sea-polo, snorkel, sun tan, swim at the pool while the guys checked out the paint-ball range. talked alot of rubbish. had a lot of fun. tried to capsized each other and board a small rock-isle infested with little crabs. crazy right? but really fun!

at nite, we do what we do every nite ---- booze out while watching tv after dinner. Hui Ling and the girls cooked dinner while Serena and i were down with the guys BBQ-ing the endless supply of chicken wings, hot dogs and crab-sticks. then, caught Ben Affleck's "The Sum of All Fears" on HBO. not bad action but pretty plotless movie. all American Macho-man flick.... the guys loved it.

Day 3 (01/08/04)

once again...... Joshua and i woke up last. this time even better. everyone left to jet-ski early in the morning, and when they came back for brunch and done with brunch already. Joshua and i were still sleeping. tell me about being lazy....

the rest left for the beach to do banana-boat while Joahua and i washed up and had brunch and Leong crept of silently to sleep. spent the next 2 hours watching cartoon network and boozing. then, when the rest came back, then the both of us went to swim at the big pool. do what? play in pool, crack silly jokes, watch the beautiful people walk by, dreaming of coconut juice by the pool bar. c'est la vie.

rushed back to bungalow at 2pm to shower n pack stuff coz had to check out at 3. made our way for the 4pm ferry back to Sg and got back at 6.30pm.

Conclusion

it was a wonderful beach resort vacation. 3D2N at Bintan was just right. made many new friends, enjoyed their companionship very much, had a lot of fun and laughter. the activites we tried out were really new experiences.

Next Destination:: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
